Holidays

I like holidays. My favorite holidays are Halloween and Christmas. In halloween, my favorite part was when we go trick-or-treating. My favorite part of Christmas is because I get a lot of presents. I like it because Santa Claus zooms around.

Day 6, Lake Tahoe, Califronia

I am now back in Lake Tahoe, California. I'm in the Highland Inn.

Before I came back here, I was in Salt Lake City, Utah. I figured out how it got its name. When on the highway, I saw patches of white, sparkly salt dried from lakes. I also saw the factory that makes the Morton salt.

I'll bet that the Morton salt that we eat and pour on our food came from there. My mom told me that she thinks that that's the use. They dry out lakes near the factory, but I don't think so. I think that the factory guys can't really control it because I think the sun's shine makes 'em dry 'cause it's hot there.

We all got off at a rest station. It still had salt all over it. But, it was better than the salt we touched last time, My dad and I saw a land sail-boat driving through the great whit land of salt. My dad took a few pictures. And then I walked in the salt with my grandmother. After that, my grandmother sprayed the ground with a hose.

The I put my feet in it. It'll clean my feet before we get into our Idaho license plate rental car that my dad rented. Before that, I licked the salt. It tasted salty. But, guess what, I've got to go.

Day 5 Salt Lake City, Utah

I am in Salt Lake City, Utah again. Before I came back, we went to another national park.

But first we have to cross Yellow Stone Park to get there. We saw bisons crossing the street agian. Those bisons looked like, well, buffalos. They had hair on them on the front side of their bodies. The back side of their bodies are like shaved off. There were little bisons too. Two were chewing on an old tree trunk.

After we left the bisons, not after a while, we got to a place called "Jenny Lake". We had lunch there on a picnic table. After lunch, we went hiking. My mom found a stick for me to use, like a hiking stick.

When we got to the pond, we took lots of pictures and shooted lots of videos. My grandmother and I compared throwing rocks into the pond to see who threw the furthest. It was like a tie. Everyone who came with us washed our hands in the clean water.

My dad went away with the video camera to shoot videosl of the waterfall, but instead of getting the waterfall in, he got a picture of a bear climbing on the mountains!

While I was playing by the water and my grandfather was sliding a stick against a big, gray rock, a little wave from the lake came upon the shore, I quickly climbed on the rocks back to the shore. My grandfather gave the stick for me to use as a hiking stick.

When I went back to the path to the parking lot, I went to the bathroom. I met my dad coming out from the men's bathroom. My mom brough me, my grandmother and herself ice-cream. I got a M-n-M one. My mom got a strawberry shortcake one and grandmother got a drumstick popsicle.

But I gotta go!!!

Day 4 West Yellow Stone, Montana

Hi! I'm still in the same hotel and place as yesterday, you remember? Well, as I said yesterday, I was gonna go to the Old Faithful. Everyone else calls it the "the Old Faithful", but I call it "the Old Playful". The Old Playful I mean the Old Faithful. The Old Faithful can go higher than a small mountain!!! Actually, many can. I also admit that many can be higher than two trees. Today, not very long after noon, I watched the Old Playful I mean Faithful explode, I saw a spring called "Chinese Spring". I think it should be called "Chinese Pot" instead of "Chinese Spring" because it bubbling inside the hold and there's a small hole for the handle.

Before we were about to go back to the huge inn, it snowed!!! The road was covered with snow and so were the car's windows. After we got a little further away from the top of the mountain, it didn't snow anymore. But some of the snow fell from the Idaho car we rented.

When we got back to the inn, we had pizza for dinner! But, now bye!!

Day 3 Yellow Stone, Montana

I am in West Yellow Stone, Montana.

Today, I went into the mountains. I saw lots of animals. Even a moose crossing the street!!! We saw many bisons. In the car, we saw a small coyote beside the road. We saw two black bears. In the car, we also saw three deers beside the road.

When we got to the geysers, they smelled like rotten eggs. Geysers have a mineral inside them called "sulphur". Sulphur is liquid yellow stuff. I saw'em.

There's a geyser called "Old Faithful". It's the world's most famous geyser. I'm gonna see it tomorrow. Geysers look like clouds of steam. My mom touched the geyser water. My mom said that the water is hot. I observed that the entrance of the geysers are pretty small. Sometimes when steam comes out of the hole, water shoots out of the hole along with the steam. Some geysers can be taller than two trees stacked together.

When we got back to our Inn which is called Days Inn, the room was really big. I like it. I need to go now.

Day 2 Salt Lake City, Utah

Bingham Copper Mine

I am at Salt Lake City, Utah. Today I went to the Bingham Copper Mine! I fell asleep during the way after lunch on the highway. My dad knew how to get there because we borrowed a street pilot.

When we got there, we followed a path to get a better view of the mine. We took lots of pictures. I took three small copper rocks. I compared my biggest one to the labels of a real big copper rock. It was almost as tall as me!!! I found two things that were the same. A clay something and something black. Then we went to the visitor center by the mine. I found some cool stuff and we watched a movie about copper. I thought it was cool. And then, we took pictures with one of those giant wheels of the huge truck that can carry three-hundred tons of stone! It was about two times taller than my dad!!!!

When we went back, we ate at a restaurant called "Kowloon Cafe". I ate some veggies, and eight potstickers. We all drank ice water. I drank the fastest because I was thirsty. And we drove to our hotel called Homestead Hotel. It was really cool. I found an iron and an ironing board in the closet! When we come back from Yellow Stone Park, we're gonna stay here again.

I had lots of fun today.

Day 1 Yellow Stone Park

I am at Reno, Nvevad right now. It's time for bed (almost), but I haven't even brushed my teeth yet. When I just go here at the Inn, I explored the room. Our Inn is called Days Inn.

After I watched television for a little while, we went to Circus, Circus - a bad place for me. Because I played a game that my dad made me try out a game that I didn't like, and I only got thirty tickets. And a woman gave me two tickets, and my parents, my grandparents and I found five more tickets. When we went to the booth where you use your tickets to get toys. I only had thirty-seven tickets. And some cost for more than a thousand tickets!!! So, I got only candy, which I don't like. It was a bad day alreaedy except when I rode in a small train around the Circus Circus building.

I never want to go there again.

Reading

My favorite thing to do is to read. I like to read chapter books. Chapter books are great to read. I read all of the Magic Tree House books, even the newest one, Morning of the Mad Genius.

Piano

I take piano lessons in Thursday. My piano teacher makes me practice three times a day. My piano teacher's name a Amy too. I've been practicing Vivace(Vee-va-chay) for about four weeks.

Yellow Stone Park

I'm going to Yellow Stone Park in a few weeks! My dad, my mom and I are staying at a motel or a hotel. My friend Julia who already went back to China had been there. My Dad's been reading maps and looking on the computer ever since he planned it.

I look forward to going to Yellow Stone Park. I wonder if there's a lot of yellow there, I oversheard my dad say that they give free breakfast I think. I'm soooooooo excited. I hope we could go soon.

The Exploratorium Summer Camp

In summer break, I went to the Exploratorium Summer Camp. I had fun.

On the first day, we did a fun activity. We did an egg drop! You need two pieces of newspaper, and unboiled egg,a piece of string, about an inch of tape, a pair of scissors, an egg carton and a plastic bag. Cut a lump from the egg carton too. Try to protect the egg the best you can, because you're gonna get up high some where, and drop the egg with it's protection! Cut your protection and, if it didn't break, hold the egg up high and say "I'm the egg-master!"

Everyday at lunch, we go to the beach to eat.

Summer Camp

On August 1st, I'm going to summer camp at the Exploratorium! I get to go there for two weeks! I'm a member already. My mom got the card in her wallet. When you go, you show the card to the register. The man there give you sticker and you can go there free! You can go free all year, once you got the card.

I bet summer camp is gonna be a lot of fun. But, you've gotta bring your own lunch every day! We even get to see our own spit under a microscope! And ,w e got to see a person working on a new project in a secret room! I feel very, very, very, very, very, very, very excited.

My Wild Adventure

One day I was running to the library. Suddenly, when I walked in, I noticed a surprise I had never expected to see. I looked through carefully. There was piles of books and more books!

Then I heard a soft raspy voice behind me. I recognized it was the librarian's assistant. He said slowly that those books were for anyone who wants one. he said I could look through. And to my surprise, those were all of my favorite book series. There was the Magic Tree House, Jigsaw Jones Mysteries, The Bailey School Kids and Encyclopedia Browns.

And I ran home with a pile of books in my arms.

Summer Break--II

Like almost the day, we always go to our mom's office. At our mom's office, we usually do art. I like to draw and make vines. Lucy makes those paper zig-zags. We send messages to each other on paper. We put'em in little envelopes. And I write AIRMAIL with a yellow hi-lighter. When our moms are done, we go back home. We eat dinner when we go home.

Summer Break

On summer vacation, when my mom and dad were woriking, I played with my best friend Lucy.

We went to practice piano together downstairs. Sometimes we play at ther house and sometimes we play at my house. We play board games like Monopoly or Chutes-and-Ladders, or Mancala, Othello. Most of the time, we play House. It's fun and you can stop whenever you want to.

When it's time for lunch, we go back home. Our parents go downstarirs and get the lunch the consulate's cook made. We usually have rice and some kind of fish. But not always.

In the afternoon, we play games and watch television. And Lucy and I have a little snack. We pick out sometihing that's from wherever we are. I alwarys pick the string cheese. It's white and you can peel strips of cheese lines from a long log of cheese. Lucy usually pick the giant Strawberry Pocky.

The Fireworks

Yesterday, I went to watch the fireworks at Pier 39. Me, my mom and dad went to the top of a huge parking lot. We got to sit on a pick-up truck. A man let us sit there until the end of the fireworks!

The fireworks was neat. There were two red bright lights falling down to the sea as a signal to show people that the show was about to begin. Some big ones and small ones with bright colors, like gold, red, blue, purple, green, yellow and pink, etc. There were some planets made of those little sparkling canons, and even rings around the planets! Happy faces and cups made out of three rings, too! A really big firework shot up high into the sky! I thought it was gonna fly out to the audience! It didn't land into the audience after all, it landed into the sea. Some even looked like fluffy flowers.

I wonder how they made it.

Thomas Edison was a scientist. He was smart.

Mr. Edison discovered milk that is safe for people to drink. He invented many things in the past. Things like the light bulb, the silent films, and the photograph.

When Mr. Edison was a boy, like about twelve years old, he sold eggs by the train station to make money for his family.

When he grew up, he was famous. He went to the 1889 Paris World Fair. They put Mr. Edison's inventions in the Great Hall. It looks as big as a football stadium.

Thomas Edison invented more than 1000 things! Isn't that amazing?

Frog and Toad Visit a Haunted House

One day Frog and Toad were eating lunch at Reptile's Meal. When they got home, they read the Sunday paper. Frog gasped at what he just read. Toad asked ,"Why use gasping?""Read this, " Answered Frog. Toad read the sentence Frog was pointing at. "Wow," Toad barely whispered. It says that there was a new museum at Reptile and Baker street. The newspaper says the museum is a fake haunted house. They decided to go there on their roller skates.

When they got there, they bought tickets to go to the museum. Frog and Toad gave their tickets to the ticket lizard. when they went in the museum, two paper ghosts greeted them at the entrance. When they saw a papier-marche hand sticking out of a tombstone, they laughed! Also, when Frog pressed a button that says "Press me", a skeleton jumped out and Toad giggled.

They saw jack-o-lanterns with pointy teeth and glowing eyes. After that, they both jumped into a small boat together and entered the tunnel of fear. In the tunnel of fear, there were many statues of pirates eating, in boats, holding weapons and fighting.

After the tunnel of fear, Frog and Toad said together, "That was a lot of fun!" They passed through the exit and a big scarecrow said "bye, bye!".

When Frog and Toad went back to Frog's house in roller skates, Toad said "Let's go there again some other time." "Okay," replied Frog. And for dinner, they ate at Lizard Sam's dinner, lunch, breakfast. Open 24 hours a day.

Then, Frog and Toad went back to their own houses and slept well that evening.

Mark's Magic Show

Once there were two friends named Mark and Rick. Mark liked to read chapter books. Rick liked to read any kind of books.

One day, Rick came to Lakens Elementary Weird. He didn't feel like reading books, like he usually did. Mark tried to ask him what's wrong. Rick said that his other friend Logan from Texas got to go to San Francisco to watch a magic show last Saturday. Rick said, "I can't go because I didn't have enough money". Mark said he went to the magic show and after he was about to leave, the amazing Victor taught him how to do some of the easy tricks. Mark said he could show Rick.

The Talking Box and Computer

Once there was a talking box whose name was Joey James. He had a friend, a talking computer. His name was Phillip Mao.

One day, they went into their secret hide out in a empty puzzle box. Joey announced,"We're gonna sneak out of the house and out to the baseball field in the park with Norman and Robbie." "Okay," replied Phillip. Norman was a talking jar and Robbie was a talking ball. They sneaked out of the house and they called Norman and Robbie. They watched the Giants and the other teams play baseball.
