Interesting Jellyfish

The lives and bodies of jellyfish are fascinating. They are interesting to look at. They are transparent, but they also can be very colorful. Jellyfish don't have backbones. They are invertebrates. They can have many sting cells. They can also have very long tentacles. They do many interesting things in their lives. Their species is over 650 million years old. They lived before the dinosaurs lived! Now that we know about the lives and bodies of jellyfish, let's continue.

We are now going to tell you about the habits of jellyfish. They are all carnivorous predators. Jellyfish use their tentacles to sting their prey and pull it in their mouths. They eat shrimp, plankton and fish, and sometimes other jellyfish! Jellyfish take a break to digest their food because they can't swim all day. When they sleep, they tilt to the right. They take siestas in the afternoon. Now we've told you about the habits of jellyfish.

Their sting is a jellyfish's only defense. It is really nasty. The Blue Lion Jellyfish's sting can kill a human in a few minutes. The Irukandji(ear-ru-kon-je) jellyfish is tiny but very fatal! Jellyfish have only a few predators. Their predators are the sea turtles, sea slugs, and sea stars. Now you know all about jellyfish defenses and predators. See you next time!
